John Lester
Singer-songwriter John Lester’s new album ‘Fathers and Sons’ is a collection of his most personal and powerful work yet. Inspired by the often unspoken family relationships between men, each song messages the love, pain, tension, struggle, and questions that arise and confound these ties and bonds. From the full acceptance of a young boy’s gender fluidity in ‘The Beautiful Princess of Never Come True’, to the merciful attempts at reconciliation with an ailing father in “The High Road”, to our founding father’s likely consternation with the current political situation in “Train Song (Don’t Let Freedom Fade Away)”, John’s life experience as father, husband, son, teacher, and story teller is felt throughout each song.

John is a multi-instrumentalist who plays basses, guitars, and ukulele, often using a loop recorder to build live tracks for his award winning songs. His talent on upright bass and bass guitars has been utilized by such diverse artists as Nashville hit songwriter Gretchen Peters, folk master Peter Rowan, and punk rock’s poet laureate Patti Smith. His voice has been compared to a “2am top-shelf scotch” and he is a two-time winner of the West Coast Songwriters “Song of the Year Award”.

“This is a strong album! ‘The Beautiful Princess of Never Come True’ is a total sledge hammer to the heart!”. – Peter Finch, The Finch Files (formerly of KFOG)

“His trademark voice sounds like it has been crafted from silk and granite all at the same time.” – Maverick Magazine
